About Me

I am originally from Bolton, I attended Bolton School with intentions of becoming a teacher, but finished up going in a different direction altogether.

I have been married for over 50 years, with a wonderful son and daughter, and grandchildren. I have lived for many years in Rossendale and am now in Lumb, which I love.

I got involved in kitchen design in my early twenties, working for Neville Johnson in Manchester, and enjoyed it so much that I have stuck with it all my working life. I have worked in many roles, from marketing to designer, to proprietor of my own business 'Capricorn Kitchens' in Southport. I have worked as a designer and a sales manager for many companies including Magnet, English Kitchen Company, and Sharps. I have worked with top end ranges such as Allmilmo and Nolte as well as mass produced 'off the shelf' which has given me a wide spread of knowledge. I have taught many people to be successful designers in their own right, including my daughter Suzanne.

For the last 15 years until my 'retirement' at the start of Covid I was the Sales Manager for Rossendale Interiors. I have had to learn about all aspects of kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms including installation and project management.

Sharon Mawdesley Design

I soon found that retirement did not suit me, and it seemed a shame not to use the knowledge that I had. I set up Sharon Mawdesley Design working from home in mid-2023.

I offer a personalised service working on a one-to-one basis with my customers.

I will either work purely as an advisor and designer, where I will design your room and provide floorplans and drawings to enable you to buy your furniture from wherever you wish, or I will supply you with units and whatever else you need and suggest fitters who will quote to install for you. I can supply kitchen and bedroom units, appliances, worktops, quartz, bathroom equipment, home offices, media units, whatever you need or just units if you prefer to source things yourself.

My initial visit and assessment is free of charge, we can discuss what you need and decide whether we can work together. If you then want me to supply plans and listings I will charge an average of around 200.00 however if you source the units through me the design fee will be cancelled.

I am not tied to any particular supplier. However, I do have a trade account with JJO at Bacup and I use them a lot, and I also use a company at Bolton called Superior Cabinets. JJO are great for anything standard, where Superior offer a bespoke service and will make anything we want, in any colour, any size. Frontline are a good bathroom supplier that I use, and Granite House are masters at anything related to quartz and granite.

I have a long list of tried and tested tradesmen who can cover all aspects of installation. Having no ties to a particular range allows me to be really flexible, and working from home reduces overheads and allows me to compete favourably with high street showrooms.
